About Cambridge River Tours

Punt passing Claire college, CambridgeWith a wealth of local knowledge and many years experience of Cambridge punting we can ensure that your trip along the backs is an experience that you will remember forever.

Started by two former punt chauffeurs with a combined total of over 12 years experience of punting in Cambridge when we first started out on our own, we have always been able to provide a wealth of knowledge, both of the City and University of Cambridge.

Having both worked for Scudamores Punting Company and Tyrells Punt Hire prior to setting out on our own, we understand that each customer is an individual and should be treated as such.

Our punt chauffeurs are well trained and experienced. Because punting is for most a seasonal job, many chauffeurs only work for a single summer and have often only been working for a few months by the time they reach the end of their tenure. Wherever possible we use chauffeurs who have been punting on the Cam for several seasons - either students who return for their holidays each year or local residents who work in a more full time capacity.

You won't get a robotic recitation of facts

Whilst every river tour covers as much (or as little) of the history as you require, each chauffeur offers their personal take on the history and background information and every tour is unique. You won't get a robotic recitation of facts.

Many of our customers have returned again and again, some on the same day!

Local knowledge

Started by a Cambridge graduate and a graduate of the City's other university Anglia Ruskin University & resident of the city for some 18 years, plus numerous others amongst our numbers, we have always had plenty of inside knowledge not just on the Cambridge colleges but also on the ins and outs of Cambridge itself.

  • Want to know where's good for Sunday lunch?
  • Or where's best for a night out on the town?
  • Where can you get budget accommodation for the night?
  • When are the bumps and where is the best place to watch them?

We have the answers to these questions and many more. Feel free to ask anything you would like to know about the area and you will get an unbiased opinion based on our experiences of life in Cambridge.

We regularly discuss discount schemes with local businesses to help both them and save our customers money.

Please note, we moved our pages about the Cambridge colleges to a separate website that we are in the process of developing and you can find our history of punting page on our new website now.
